I have noticed that a lot of people still do not know whether electric heating is greener than gas. So, I decided to write this article and provide you with the reasons why it is actually greener and more efficient.
These past 100 years we have had quite the history. So many breakthroughs in technological advancements have made human life easier, better, and more efficient. What was once seen as impossible is accessible to everyone these days. The number of wars, conflicts, and poverty has been considerably reduced and it is probably lower than ever. But, there was one major compromise to achieve all that and that is the health of our planet Earth. It is no secret that Earth’s atmosphere has been severely damaged in these past 100 years.
However, in the 21st century, we are trying to change that. At least, some people and some major corporations are aiming to make a change. We hope that switching to more efficient fuel alternatives and relying on electricity instead of gas will make the planet greener.
If you are one of those people that want to reduce their carbon footprints on the world, you are probably thinking about switching from gas to electric heating. And, that will probably be a good decision because electricity is definitely cleaner and more efficient than gas.
1. It is a renewable energy
One of the main reasons why those hoping to reduce their carbon footprint should switch to electric heating is simply because the energy used is renewable. These days, we have so many different methods that allow us to create energy that we can use to power the most basic appliances and even complicated machines such as vehicles.
Today, we have access to solar, wind, Hydro, Tidal, geothermal, and biomass energy. All of these sources could be used to power the heating inside of your home. The expense to gather energy from these sources is actually quite small and it has no significant impact on the atmosphere.
Spending electricity to heat your home also has no kind of impact on the atmosphere. Basically, this entire process is completely green.
A lot of countries, including the UK, New Zealand, Switzerland, Denmark, Sweden, Finland, and many more have been aiming to create greener energy for years now. They have installed thousands of wind and solar farms which has reduced the production of CO2 considerably.
2. Gas is not
In my previous point, I focused on the fact that electric heating is based on renewable energy. In other words, the sources that provide us with power are basically unlimited. Sure, the son could die, but that is probably going to happen after billions and billions of years.
However, gas is not renewable energy and we are slowly spending its source. The gas that we use for heating is fossil fuel. In other words, once the fossil fuel on planet Earth is spent, we will not have any more of it. So, even if we wanted to rely on gas, we cannot because it is going to be spent in a very short amount of time. Right now, the predictions are that the oil deposits will probably end in less than 60 years. Yes, that is not a lot of time left.
We have to keep in mind that this gas has uses outside of heating, so it makes sense to prolong its lifespan as much as we can. We should only use it for the most important things. Since there are other alternatives to heating, I do not see why anyone should spend it on heating.
I hope that soon people realize how serious the situation is and that they will make the necessary change.
3. It is cheaper to heat with electricity
This is probably something you did not expect to hear. Everyone has been telling you that you should avoid heating your home with electricity because it is expensive. Well, this might have been true 10 or 20 years ago, but it is a lot different now. I understand that people had to keep their electricity bills as low as possible because 50 years ago 1 kW cost a lot more money.
However, a lot of things have changed and we have to readjust our values and the way we lead our lives. These days, it is probably much cheaper to heat with electricity than anything else as suggested by www.futofolia.hu. Of course, I am sure that public/district heating might be cheaper in your country, but this is not a bad alternative and you also do not have to depend on anyone else. You decide when you want it and how much you are going to use it.
How does this make it greener than gas? Well, it is simple. The power distribution and supply companies in countries around the world have much more efficient methods of producing energy reducing their carbon footprint while also making it cheaper for the people. The less money spent on this system, the greener the outcome.
4. Low carbon emissions
The most popular and obvious reason why electric heating is greener than gas is because of the low carbon emissions. I did mention several times in this article that producing energy these days is much more efficient which means that the carbon emissions have also been reduced, but you also have to consider that there are no emissions when powering your heating at home.
Let me explain. When using gas to power a certain machine, appliance, or whatever it is, it produces energy and carbon emissions. All of those carbon emissions are released into the atmosphere. But, you also have to account for the carbon emissions that are created when producing that same gas.
The only carbon emissions made from electricity is while it is being produced. Those carbon emissions are considerably lower when compared to the ones that are created during the production of gas.
